The Anthropocene paintings by George Whitley (a pseudonym for Lynn Dunham) are inspired by Google Earth images and her interest in global environmental issues from climate change, hydro fracking and seismic activity to the changes occurring to the earth’s land mass as related to glacier melt. “Anthropocene” is a non-scientific description for the geological age of “today” - the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment. In mixed media paintings she combines manmade and natural materials including polyurethane, sand, concrete, metallic tape, plaster, acrylic and latex on canvas to create topographical works.
